Ultrasonic cleansing is gentle and mainly superficial, whereas mechanical cleansing removes comedones manually or with instruments. A combined atraumatic approach is often most sensible: prepare and gently cleanse the skin, then perform targeted extraction only where necessary.
An ultrasonic spatula helps lift superficial dead cells, cosmetic residue and some sebum. It is usually comfortable, causes little redness and has minimal downtime. It may suit sensitive, dry or mildly congested skin and regular maintenance. However, it generally cannot remove deep, firm closed comedones on its own.
Manual extraction may be more effective for prominent blackheads and comedones but is more intensive. Redness, tenderness and local marks can last several days. Excessive pressure increases inflammation, pigmentation and scarring risk, so extraction should be selective and gentle. Deep inflamed lesions should not be aggressively squeezed.
Sensitive or dehydrated skin often suits ultrasonic or atraumatic cleansing. Oily, comedonal skin may need selected manual extraction. With active acne, cleansing is not complete treatment; dermatological assessment and inflammation control may come first.
Men may have thicker, oilier skin while shaving increases sensitivity. In teenagers, every inflamed spot should not be treated as "dirt". Painful nodules, scarring or widespread inflammation require medical assessment.
There is no universal schedule. Some people need treatment every 6–12 weeks; others require closer initial care. Frequency depends on sebum, comedones, home care and skin response. Over-frequent aggressive cleansing can damage the barrier.
Use gentle cleansing, moisturiser and SPF. Avoid rubbing, scrubs, acids and retinoids until calm, as well as saunas, pools, tanning and strong sun. Increasing redness, pain or discharge requires professional advice.
Does ultrasound clear every pore?
No; deep comedones may require another method.
Does extraction enlarge pores?
Correct extraction does not "stretch" pores, but trauma can damage skin.
Can it be done with active acne?
Only after assessment; inflamed lesions are not aggressively extracted.
When can makeup be used?
Once skin is calm and extraction sites have closed.
The method is chosen after skin assessment. Information and booking: elinabeauty.com/elinabeauty.com
